Intro

What are your wildest and most exciting goals, visions, wishes, and dreams? Do you ever wish there was a creative and fun way to keep these aspirations front and center in your life? Imagine a process that inspires and reminds you of these beautiful parts of yourself daily. You are in control of your life! By reminding yourself of those dreams daily, you can bring more joy into your life and stay motivated to take small, meaningful steps toward your goals.

While some people like to create a vision board every year, there’s no need to wait for the end of the calendar year to start. You also don’t have to stick to an annual schedule—create one whenever it feels right for you! A vision board, sometimes called a dream board, is a way to be visually reminded of your wishes, goals, and dreams. Decide what you want to have, be, or do in the future. It can be as big or as small as you want. Whether you’re aiming for your best marathon time next year or picturing your dream house to make a forever home, a vision board can help bring your dreams to life.

Search for images that help visually remind you of those goals and dreams. Create a photo collage that represents and symbolizes them. Finally, place the vision board where you will see it daily. Some people hang their vision board on their bedroom wall, but I love making it my laptop’s wallpaper. Every time I open my laptop, I’m reminded of my goal and I’m motivated to work towards it. If you see it constantly, you’ll be reminded of your dreams regularly. This constant visual cue will subconsciously remind you of what you ultimately want and inspire you to take action to reach your goals and dreams.

The Concept of a Vision Board

Why have a vision board at all? Have you ever felt overwhelmed by your goals or unsure about what you really want to achieve? A vision board is a great way to have a visual and inspiring reminder of what you want to experience. If you’re not exactly sure what your goals and visions are for your life, the process of making a board itself allows you to gain more focus and clarity on what you want. It will remind you of your positive affirmations and allow you to “remember your why” every time you see the collage you created.

A little visual encouragement and inspiration can go a long way. Psychologically, it can push big goals into the subconscious. Daily tasks can sometimes get tedious, but this visual reminder will help shift you back into that positive energy. A vision board allows us to see the destination we want to reach, which causes us to take tiny, conscious actions toward those goals. It helps us define our goals with better focus, keeps us motivated, and inspires intentional and purposeful action to reach what we want.

    Set Your Goals and Intentions

Have you taken the time to sit down and figure out what it is you really want in life? Now is the perfect moment to do it. Before you start searching online for the perfect images for your vision board, take a moment to quickly jot down what you want to visualize. It can be anything under the sun! Maybe you want to be more intentional about making time for friendships to grow over the next year. Or perhaps you’re aiming for a promotion at work. Maybe you want to devote more time to growing in your marriage.

My most recent vision board covers all facets of life. I focused a lot on starting my online business and hope to save money for our first investment property. One of my silly dreams is to make enough money to pay a housekeeper to clean our home when I’m not feeling it! I want to focus on personal empowerment and grow in my feelings of confidence and security. Additionally, I hope to deepen my yoga and meditation practices. I want to enjoy spending time with my family at Disney World. I want to have the budget to treat myself to spa days and shopping for clothes every once in a while.

Short Term vs. Long Term Goals

Do you have both short-term and long-term goals you want to achieve? I personally like having a mix of both on my vision board. First, I focus on things that I can achieve within a year, such as creating a consistent daily yoga and meditation practice. I also include long-term goals, like putting a picture of my dream house on my vision board to remind myself daily of my commitment to growing my business.

    Personal vs. Professional Goals

Balancing personal and professional goals on my vision board helps me stay motivated and focused. For example, I include images that remind me of building my family and spending time at my happiest place (Disney World!). I also put pictures to symbolize building my brand and growing investment properties.

Now it’s your turn! What do you want to have in your life? What does your dream life look like? Do you want to work towards a dream vacation, car, or home? What is something you can accomplish by this time next year? What do you want to achieve by the end of your lifetime? List your unique dreams, visions, and goals, and start visualizing them today.

Gathering the Materials Needed to Create a Vision Board Online

Creating a vision board online is simpler than you think and can be a lot of fun! First, find your images. Then, put them all together to create a collage that represents your goals and dreams.

    Finding & Selecting Images

There are so many places you can find images online for your vision board. My favorite places to search for images are Pinterest, Unsplash, Pexels, Canva, and even Google. If you plan to share your vision board publicly, it’s best practice to use commercial-free images found on sites like Unsplash and Pexels to avoid any copyright issues. If it’s just for your personal use, like a wallpaper on your laptop, you can use any image you’d like. You can even use your own photos or quotes if you want.

You can search for general images, such as “love” or “dream house,” or you can search for specific things like “Paris vacation.” Just play around with it and start collecting your favorite images. Choose the ones that speak to you and inspire you! One of my favorite parts of the process is discovering new, inspiring images that resonate with my goals. If you are just find blog posts instead of images on Pinterest, just add the word “picture” or “photo” to the phrase you’re searching for.

    Assembling Your Vision Board

The first way to create a vision board online is through Google Slides or PowerPoint. To create a vision board online using Google Slides or PowerPoint, follow these steps:

    1. Open Google Slides or PowerPoint: Start a new presentation slide.
    2. Add Your Images: Copy and paste all your favorite photos and motivational words onto a slide. You can resize and arrange them to create your desired layout.
    3. Save as an Image: Once your vision board slide is complete, save it as an image file. In Google Slides, you can do this by going to File > Download > PNG image (.png). In PowerPoint, go to File > Save As, and choose PNG or JPG as the file format.

By saving your vision board as an image, you can use it as your computer wallpaper, print it out for a physical copy, or share it digitally with others. This method is simple and allows you to easily customize your vision board to reflect your goals and inspirations.

Using Pinterest to Make Your Vision Board

Pinterest can be a convenient tool for storing your inspirational images online. If you’re already a frequent user of Pinterest, creating a dedicated board titled “Vision Board” allows you to save all your favorite images and quotes in one place. However, to integrate these images into a cohesive vision board, consider using different software to create a collage that you can view daily.

As the year progresses and you gather more ideas, your Pinterest “Vision Board” can serve as a repository for images that resonate with your goals. When you’re ready to create your vision board, you’ll have a collection of favorite pictures readily available. This method not only simplifies the gathering process but also ensures that your vision board reflects the images and ideas that inspire you most.

Using Canva to Create Your Vision Board Online

My preferred method for creating a vision board online is through Canva. Whether you prefer to upload and arrange your chosen pictures or start with a template, Canva offers flexibility to suit your needs. In my experience, I often opt to upload my own pictures and experiment with arranging them until I achieve the desired aesthetic.

Canva provides an array of vision board templates that you can explore. These templates offer a great starting point if you’re looking for inspiration or want a layout that’s already designed. One of the features I particularly enjoy is Canva’s integration with Pexels, a free stock image site. This integration allows you to search for and use Pexels images directly within Canva, eliminating the need to download images separately onto your computer. It streamlines the process of creating your vision board, saving you valuable time and effort.

    Layout Ideas

Creating a vision board involves more than just gathering images; it’s about how you arrange them to reflect your goals and aspirations effectively. Here are some layout ideas to consider:

    Word of the year

Consider adding a “Word of the Year” to your vision board. This can be a central focal point that encapsulates your overarching theme or aspiration for the year ahead. Place your chosen word prominently in the center of your vision board, or incorporate it subtly into the images you select. Examples of a “Word of the Year” could be “Create,” “Freedom,” or “Thrive.”

    Arrange by category

Vision boards can be organized by categories such as exercise/fitness, family, and professional work. Alternatively, you can group items by timeline—things you want to accomplish within a year versus those you envision achieving over a lifetime. Another approach is to prioritize items by size or placement. Highlight top-priority goals by making them larger or placing them in a central position, while lower-priority goals can be smaller or positioned in the background.

    Choose a Theme or aesthetic

Consider selecting a specific theme or aesthetic for your vision board. This could range from a vintage/retro vibe to a bright and beachy aesthetic with tans and pastels. Your chosen theme should resonate with you personally and visually reflect the feelings and aspirations you wish to manifest. Whether you prefer a minimalist look or a vibrant collage, let your vision board reflect your unique style and preferences.

The layout and design of your vision board are crucial as they contribute to its effectiveness in motivating and inspiring you towards achieving your dreams. Experiment with different arrangements until you find one that truly resonates with you and visually captures the essence of your goals.

format in a grid style or a collage style

When creating your vision board, consider the visual impact of organizing your images in either a structured grid format or a more dynamic collage style. Here’s how each format can enhance your vision board:

    Grid Style

A grid layout provides a clean and organized appearance, perfect for those who prefer structure and clarity in their goals. Each image is neatly aligned, creating a cohesive visual narrative. This format works well for categorizing different aspects of your life or goals, such as career aspirations, personal development, and travel plans. The first vision board sample above showcases a “Create” theme in a structured grid layout. Each image is clearly defined, emphasizing clarity and focus in achieving creative goals.

    Collage Style

Opting for a collage-style layout lends a more artistic and expressive feel to your vision board. Images overlap and intersect, creating an engaging visual story that reflects the interconnected nature of your dreams and aspirations. This format allows for creativity and spontaneity, making it ideal for capturing a diverse range of goals and inspirations in a unified composition. The second sample, found below, is a collage style. Here, images are layered and arranged in a more fluid and artistic manner, capturing the excitement and variety of dreams related to marriage, fitness, and travel.

Choosing between a grid or collage format depends on your personal style and the message you want your vision board to convey. Whether you prefer a neat arrangement or a dynamic mix, let your vision board layout reflect your individuality and inspire you towards realizing your dreams.

Why Creating a Vision Board Online is Just Easier

Creating a vision board online offers several advantages that make the process more flexible and adaptable to your evolving goals and aspirations. Here’s why:

    1. Ease of Revision

When you create a vision board online, you have the flexibility to revise it whenever needed. If you want to change or refine a picture on your board, it’s as simple as opening the file in your chosen software, like Canva or Google Slides, and making edits. This convenience allows you to adjust your vision board as your goals become clearer or change over time.

    2. Adaptability Over Time

Unlike traditional vision boards made with magazine cut-outs, which are static once assembled, an online vision board can evolve alongside your dreams. For instance, if halfway through the year you identify a new dream or goal—such as finding your ideal home—you can easily update your vision board to reflect this aspiration. This adaptability ensures that your vision board remains relevant and inspiring as your life progresses.

    3. Reflecting on Progress

Creating a vision board online enables you to track and reflect on your progress over time. You can review earlier versions of your board to see how your goals have evolved and celebrate the achievements you’ve made towards realizing them. This reflective practice can provide motivation and clarity as you continue working towards your dreams.

    4. Convenience and Accessibility

Online tools like Canva often integrate with stock image libraries, making it easier to find and use high-quality images that resonate with your goals. You can also access your vision board from any device with internet access, whether it’s your laptop, tablet, or smartphone, allowing you to stay connected to your aspirations wherever you go.

In summary, creating a vision board online offers the flexibility to make revisions, adapt to changing goals, and reflect on your progress over time. It empowers you to visualize and manifest your dreams in a way that is dynamic and aligned with your evolving life journey.

Making Your Vision Board Work for You

In my experience, the true power of a vision board lies in taking action. Simply creating it isn’t enough; you must actively engage with it to harness its full potential. Here’s how you can make your vision board work effectively for you:

    1. Visualization and Focus

Take time each day to visualize and focus on your vision board. Spend a minute or two looking at each picture and immerse yourself in the emotions associated with achieving your goals. Whether it’s imagining the feeling of living in your dream home or relaxing on a beach in Fiji, allow yourself to feel joy, relaxation, connection, and the fulfillment of spending quality time with loved ones. Visualize yourself already living your dreams.

    2. Emotional Connection

Emphasize the emotional aspect of your goals. Feel deeply how it would feel to accomplish and experience each dream. By connecting emotionally to your aspirations, you reinforce your commitment and attract positive energy towards manifesting them.

    3. Belief and Confidence

Have full confidence and belief in your ability to achieve your dreams. Trust that these goals are within your reach and that you deserve to achieve them. Remember, you can start feeling the emotions associated with your dreams right now, in your current circumstances. Cultivate gratitude and appreciation for where you are while striving for where you want to be.

    4. Taking Action

The most crucial step in the vision board process is taking consistent action towards your goals. Break down your dreams into smaller, manageable steps and commit to taking these actions daily. Whether it’s networking for your career, saving money for a vacation, or starting a new hobby, each step brings you closer to your ultimate vision.

    5. Manifesting Your Dreams

By combining visualization with consistent action, you empower yourself to manifest your dreams and turn them into reality. Believe in your worthiness to achieve your desires, and live your best life now, knowing that you are actively creating the future you envision.

Remember, your vision board is a tool to inspire and motivate you, but its true power lies in how you integrate its messages into your daily life through action and belief.
